NEW DELHI: After winning the `best initial design award' in 2008, the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) is all set to compete again in the `NASA
Great Moonbuggy Race - 2009'. The two-day event, starting from April 3, will be organized at the Marshall Space Flight Centre in Alabama, US. An interdisciplinary undergraduate team of DCE, including Bharat Singh from IIIrd year mechanical, Prerit Pramod from IIIrd year electrical, Himani Gangania from IIIrd year biotechnology, Dhruv Kumar from Ist year polymer science and chemical technology and Rishab Bhargava from Ist year mechanical, has designed and developed the four-wheeler for the race. The contest is organized to test cutting edge innovations by young innovators across the globe. According to RK Sinha, dean, industrial research and development, DCE, "As compared to the Moonbuggy 2008, this year we have reduced the weight of our vehicle by 20%. The steering and suspension systems of the vehicle have also been upgraded. Disc brakes have been introduced as well. The team has used latest computer aided design and analysis tools using solid works software.'' The pilots for the DCE Moonbuggy this time will be Himani and Dhruv.
